A good time to switch is somewhere between one and a half year and three years of age. The later the better. It’s mostly much better to make the transition at the age of three than of one and a half.

If you are doing potty training at the same time as changing from crib to toddler bed, it can be advisable to interrupt the potty training. This could be too much for your child.

An advice that has been proven good is to put toddlers beds in the same place as the crib was before. This way, you make sure that the surrounding is the same and the child feel safer than when put somewhere else.

For girls there are also the possibility of buying a princess toddler bed. Then your girl will feel as if she was a princess, which of course is a great dream of almost every young girl.

If you travel, you can always buy a toddler travel bed. This is very practical when you are visiting other people and they don’t have beds for all. Your child is then going to have a nice toddler bed which he is comfortable with. He doesn’t have to use a bed that he doesn’t know.

It shouldn’t be underestimated how important it is to let your child sleep in a surrounding that he already knows. This is of course possible when you are using a toddler travel bed. If he has to sleep in a normal bed, everything is new. And the bed is probably much too big for the child.

If you are afraid that your child will roll out of bed while sleeping, you can use toddler bed rails. That way the child can’t roll out. The toddler bed rail works exactly as on the crib. It’s a very efficient way of stopping him from rolling out of bed.
